During April and May Tim Passmore, Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC) for Suffolk hosted a series of District Panel meetings around the county. Representatives from community groups, businesses and other partners were invited to attend the meetings to discuss the PCC’s plans for policing. The public were also welcome to hear the discussions.
The seven meetings were very useful to gain a snapshot of the current issues in the different areas of the county and will to inform our work in the coming months.
There were a number of points that came up, which included:
- Concerns about road safety, speeding, road closures and parking.
- A wish to continue the focus on rural crime issues.
- Comments about work in schools and engagement with young people.
- Concerns about shoplifting.
- Issues relating to street drinking, alcohol and licensing.
- Support for drug offences being tackled as a priority.
- Partnership work to support problem families.
- The need to raise the profile of the national 101 number.
- Concerns about resourcing in respect of police officer deployment and attendance at local meetings.
- Comment that more should be done to work with public and voluntary sectors.
